Teiji Otomo, Owner

Seito New York

Teiji Otomo came to the U.S. from Natori City Japan in 1978. He worked in the restaurant and service industry in New York City for a number of years. During this time, he gained extensive knowledge through various positions which included managing several New York City restaurants and as a Japanese restaurant supply salesman. A combination of these experiences and his love and dedication to the Japanese culture inspired him to take a risk and create his own company.

In 1990, he and his wife, Pam, opened Seito New York in a humble corner of a friend's warehouse to supply the Japanese restaurant industry in New York and the surrounding area. Hard work and the support of loyal customers during the company's foundation period became the basis for expansion. At first, most customers were only Japanese chefs and restaurant owners.  As the years passed, there became a greater interest in Japanese knives and home products. Because of this, people looking for quality Japanese products for the home also became regular customers.

In 2012 Seito New York moved to a great new location conveniently located in Queens Plaza. After almost 10 years there and 31 years in business we decided to close this location. We will be doing online business only in the future. You can visit us at www.seito-newyork.com. We will miss seeing all of you in person but look forward to helping you find some great Japanese items on our website. Please note: We do not have a showroom in Albany, all sales are done online. If you are a business in Albany, we can visit your location.
